Metaphor #2

I wanted to post another metaphor. This poem was written by my brother Corey who committed suicide 11 years ago at the age of 25. Although it's a depressive topic and poem, the metaphor itself is DEPRESSION. Suicide is difficult to explain, to comprehend, and to understand. My brother was depressed but the problem is no one really new it! He left behind some poems among letters for our family and this one titled "Sorrow" I think adequately reveals a perception of Sorrow and really gives insight as to how depression is a tragic way to live, and dying seems better. :(
The tenor is Sorrow, and the vehicles used to describe sorrow are:   an ache without a location, being empty and filling, loving and hating, thinking of and growing, living and dying.
You can apply your own meaning here, but to me, it means that sorrow is diabolical.  Each line is contrasting, implying confusion.  To me this makes perfect sense of how hopeless sorrow feels to a person.  There seems to not be an answer because nothing is definite, there is contrast.  It breaks my heart, but also gives enlightenment and understanding.

SORROW

It's an ache,
without a location.

It's empty,
but it fills me.

It loves me,
I hate it.

I think,
it grows.

It lives,
I die.

  2. Depression is a horrible thing to deal with...I think your brother captured it perfectly and beautifully. This poem also describes the loss of a loved one. I'm sorry.
